Prasuti Tantra evum Stree Roga is Ayurveda's dedicated branch of obstetrics and gynaecology. The department trains students in the care of women through the reproductive years — from Garbhadhana (conception) and antenatal care to safe delivery, postnatal recovery, and the management of gynaecological disorders.
Prasuti Tantra deals with the physiology and care of pregnancy, labour, and the puerperium, while Stree Roga covers the diagnosis and management of gynaecological disorders affecting Artava (menstruation), Yoni (the female reproductive tract), and fertility. Together they form one of the eight classical branches of Ashtanga Ayurveda concerned with women's health across the reproductive lifespan.
The department imparts theoretical and practical training in Garbhini Paricharya (month-wise antenatal regimen), Prasava Vijnana (the normal and abnormal processes of labour), and Sutika Paricharya (postnatal care), following the Charaka, Sushruta, and Kashyapa Samhitas, alongside the classical understanding of Stree Roga such as Artava Vyapad, Yoni Vyapad, and Vandhyatva.
Students gain hands-on clinical exposure through antenatal and gynaecological case-taking, participation in antenatal check-up clinics, and supervised OPD/IPD postings, learning to counsel and manage women through pregnancy, childbirth, and common reproductive disorders.
