Rasashastra evam Bhaishajya Kalpana is the science of Ayurvedic pharmaceutics — the purification and processing of metals, minerals, and herbs into safe, potent medicines, and the classical art of transforming raw drugs into finished dosage forms.
Rasashastra is Ayurveda's iatrochemistry — the study of Parada (mercury), metals, minerals, and gems, and the classical processes of Shodhana (purification) and Marana (incineration) used to convert them into therapeutically safe Bhasmas and Sindooras. Bhaishajya Kalpana complements this as the science of Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, covering the preparation of dosage forms such as Churna, Vati, Avaleha, Asava-Arishta, Sneha Kalpana, and Kshara.
Together, the two disciplines form the backbone of Ayurvedic drug manufacturing — teaching students the classical Paribhasha (terminology), Samskara (processing techniques), and the modern quality parameters of Identity, Purity, Stability, Safety, and Efficacy that every finished medicine must meet before clinical use.
The department operates a dedicated teaching pharmacy where students prepare Churna, Vati, Guggulu, Asava-Arishta, Sneha Kalpana, Kshara-Lavana, and Bhasma under supervision, alongside a quality-testing laboratory equipped with modern analytical instruments for standardisation and research.
